Dunham Forest Golf and Country Club PGA Golf Professional
Hello and welcome to this week's edition of my newsletter,
Now that the season is in full swing (no pun intended) our course is really starting to blossom. With the soil temperature finally warming up, the grass is now growing nicely, so much so that preferred lies have now finished. Very soon the firm patchy parts of the course will be grassed over and our course will be back to A1 condition.
Last week the Men's section competed for the Mark Radiven Trophy, our first medal event of the Season. Mr Radiven was not an avid golfer at all, but when Dunham was founded it was (as it is now!) an honour to me a member of the prestigious new country club. As a member recently told me, Mr Radiven 'had a few bob' and although he didn't play golf he was more than happy to put up the many thousands of pounds, back in the sixties, to have a trophy in his name.
With scoring proving tricky once more, the level par 72's of the seemingly ever present Mark Pattinson and the much improved Ian Somerset looked like they might have a sniff, that was until Dave Franks rolled in a 10 foot birdie putt on the 18th for a nett 71. This looked to have clinched victory until Ross Mackay, playing in the penultimate group, with his newly purchased customised Callaway 3 wood (Shameless plug!!) took the honours with a nett 70 off his soon to lowered 3 handicap. Well done to all who took part.
The ladies played a Stableford on Tuesday and as in the men's competition the winner came towards the end of the field. It looked for most of the day that Pauline Frank, with her new found short game skills (another shameless plug !!) would take the honours but in the eleventh hour Janice Simon piped Pauline with 35 points. Once again well done to all who took part.
